Job Summary:
This position is for Engineering Specialist in the Autonomy & Automation Site Network Communications team. This person will be part of an engineering team focused on wireless network validations and supporting Caterpillar autonomy customers. The individual must have technical depth with outdoor wireless networks including private cellular and WiFi, as well technical depth in radio frequency (RF) planning for mining and quarry operations. Demonstrated strong customer facing skills is very important as a primary role of this position will be interacting with customers and traveling to customer sites.
Good technical, coordination, and communication skills are a must for this position as well as a strong focus on quality.
What You Will Do:
Work with Cat commercial teams on pre-sales engagements to analyze customer operational needs and recommend wireless technology solutions.
Plan, design, deploy, and help support customers site networks.
Develop detailed technical specifications and documentation for connectivity solutions.
Lead wireless network validations, execute test plans, engage with wireless OEM’s on identified issues during testing.
Participate in design reviews, testing, and validation processes to ensure compliance with requirements.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to customer site networks.
Mentor and coach other engineers in the team and provide technical leadership.
Stay updated with the latest advancements in cellular and Wi-Fi technologies and connectivity standards.
Education requirement:
Typically a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in an accredited Engineering or Computer Science or 15+ years of wireless communications experience.
What skills you will have:
Technical Excellence:
Proven experience in designing and defining system requirements and architecture for complex systems (preferably Networking applications)
Strong understanding of Network technologies and protocols along with connectivity standards
Knowledge of cybersecurity principles related to connectivity systems is desirable
Prior experience in testing and validation of complex network technologies
Prior experience in converting customer requirements to technical requirements
Effective Communications:
Ability to effectively communicate with cross-functional teams including, but not limited to, Caterpillar end customers, Product groups, Hardware, Validation and Cybersecurity
Clearly document and communicate designs, project schedules and tradeoffs with customers
Managing Multiple Priorities
Ability to handle multiple customer engagements at a time by managing priorities
Demonstrated ability to quickly adjusts to changing priorities, navigating unforeseen challenges with a proactive mindset

The location for this position is Mossville, IL

This position will require up to 50% travel.
Summary Pay Range:
$126,000.00 - $204,720.00Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
