Our Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD) is one of the most innovative divisions within Caterpillar. In PSLD, as within all of Caterpillar, our priority is our customers and helping them build a better world. We touch nearly every element of the services value stream from procurement to design and manufacturing to distribution. PSLD is responsible for Aftermarket Parts Distribution of Cat Parts, Integrated Logistics, segment Procurement and the design and manufacture of Wear Components (Undercarriage and GET) and Maintenance Components (Seals, Tubes & Hardware, Hose & Couplings, Fluids and Filters).
The two arms of the division – Distribution Service Division (DSD) and Global Service Department (GSD) – partner closely with each other to enable service success for dealers and customers with a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency. Our Teams work together in critical areas that leverage digital capabilities, technology, world-class training, and accurate information. This partnership within the division, with our industry partners and dealers, enables swifter delivery of world-class customer service and supports Caterpillar’s services’ growth targets.
The Dealer Service Tools Electrical Design Engineering Specialist leads the development and maintenance, as well as sets the vision, for the diagnostic, test and measurement tools within the DST portfolio. Our end-to-end team designs, validates, releases, and supports high quality tooling solutions for the entire Caterpillar product portfolio. The primary responsibility for the Dealer Service Tools (DST) Electrical Design Engineering Specialist is to execute engineering projects that deliver diagnostic, test and measurement tools that are used to troubleshoot, maintain and repair Cat machines, engines and components. This includes execution of projects that deliver new tooling solutions required by NPI, as well as CPI and Maintenance efforts to ensure continued availability of existing tools within the portfolio. A significant deliverable will include leading strategy development and project execution for the next generation diagnostic tool.

What You Will Do:
• Execute the design, development and testing of diagnostic tooling, with on-time delivery to the project plan following the NPI process.
• Develop design parameters, performance characteristics, and technical specifications of diagnostic tooling and related components that satisfy customer needs and advance safety, quality, velocity and cost.
• Monitoring, exploring, and testing new technologies and components to understand product or process improvement opportunities.
• Procure prototypes for functional validation and design optimization.
• Partner with suppliers to deliver production components and help the systems engineers integrate successfully into various applications.
• Achieve compliance to communicate regulatory requirements for electrical and electronic systems and components.
• Investigate and troubleshoot technical issues related to electrical and electronic systems and components.
• Collaborate with electrical and electronic equipment vendors for the development of systems and components (Sensors, Transducers etc.), including the identification of alternatives for obsolete components.
• Mentor peers in the development of electrical and electronic systems and components.
• Analyze existing tools for redesign using readily available, innovative, and cost-effective components.
What You Have (Basic Requirements):
Education Requirement:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in an accredited Electrical Engineering curriculum.
This position will require a deep understanding of industries, enterprise structure, our tooling product portfolio, dealers, and customers. You should also have extensive knowledge and experience with the following skills set:
• Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment. Identifies, obtains, and organizes relevant data and ideas, and recognizes, clarifies, and prioritizes concerns.
• Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, to achieve project objectives. Identifies risks, creates contingency plans, and provides regular status updates.
• Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a product development or field issue resolution environment in a timely fashion. Resolves complex problems by breaking it down into its component parts.
• Relationship Management: Knowledge of relationship management techniques; ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with customers, vendors, and process partners. Adapts documents and presentations for the intended audience while maintaining focus on the topic at hand.
• Electronics Engineering: Ability to define requirements, design, and validate electronic circuits, components and devices. Champions innovation using new technologies that solve technical problems.
What Will Set You Apart (Preferred Qualifications):
• Knowledge of different sensors, interfaces, and their application to diagnostic testing.
• Hands-on experience with setup and support of diagnostic tools for data collection.
• Experience with PLC code for dedicated test boxes.
• Existing knowledge of machine diagnostic tests.
• Experience using scope meter, current probes, high voltage test meters, fuel burn rate meters, airflow and blowby test equipment, or other complex test equipment.
• Product support / field service experience.

Summary Pay Range:
$126,000.00 - $189,000.00Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
