Cloud Data Engineer
Role Definition:
As a Cloud Data Engineer, you will be primarily responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable solutions on our Data platform hosted on Snowflake that supports the data needs of various business units and functions. You will play a key role in managing access controls, optimizing performance, and implementing robust data procedures using advanced SQL and Python scripts.
You will work closely with the Enterprise Data Governance team and the Business Governance team to follow the standards and principles of data management and governance.
You will also collaborate with data engineers, data analysts, data scientists, and other stakeholders to provide data solutions that meet the business requirements and objectives.
What You Will Do:
Develop and maintain stored procedures, scripts, and automation tools using advanced SQL and scripting languages (e.g., Python / JavaScript).
Manage and monitor the Data platform, including data ingestion, data transformation, data quality, data security, and data access by applying the principles and policies given by the Business Governance team.
Troubleshoot and resolve any issues or incidents related to the Data platform and provide root cause analysis and recommendations for improvement.
Work closely with the business partners by providing them with the technical support and guidance and ensure that they have the appropriate access and permissions to the data they need.
Collaborate with the developers of the data platform by reviewing and approving the code changes as part of the CI/CD process.
Contribute to maintaining and updating the team’s CI/CD pipeline developed mainly using Python.
Collaborate with the corporate’s other Enterprise Data Lakes to ensure efficient data flows.
Keep abreast of the latest developments and trends in Snowflake and other data technologies and evaluate and recommend new features or tools that can enhance the data capabilities and performance.
What You Have:
At least 3 years of experience in Data engineering or cloud data platform development including data ingestion, data transformation, data security, data access, and data optimization.
Proficiency in advanced SQL and experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript).
Experience with data governance and data quality frameworks and tools, such as Data Catalog, Data Lineage, Data Dictionary, and Data Profiling.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and critical thinking skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Certification in Snowflake or other data technologies is a plus.

Knowledge of system and software testing; ability to design, plan and execute system testing strategies and tactics to ensure the quality of software at all stages of the system life cycle.
Systems Software Infrastructure:
Knowledge of computer architecture and system software interaction; ability to design and build a fundamental architecture of operating systems, database management systems, communications protocols, compilers, and other development tools.
Technical Troubleshooting:
Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools, and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application, or operation.
Technical Writing/Documentation:
Knowledge of technical writing; ability to write documents such as training manuals, guidelines or documents on standards, processes, and procedures.
Additional Info:
This position is 5 days onsite in East Peoria IL.

Summary Pay Range:
$110,520.00 - $179,640.00Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
