Job Summary:

Caterpillar’s Integrated Components and Solutions Division is currently seeking a Mining Technology Product Engineering Project Lead for Caterpillar Mining Safety Systems primarily responsible for Driver Safety Systems (DSS). As the project leads, you will be responsible for deliverables in new product development, continuous product improvement, new technology development of the DSS technical team.

The incumbent must have strong technical and analytical skills, good communication and project management skills, a broad technical knowledge base, strong engineering judgement, and demonstrated team leadership skills. The incumbent must have the ability to interface with mining customers tactfully and with technical competence.

The engineering project lead must be able to build relationships and partnerships with product support, commercial teams, strategy teams, process owners and customers to provide exceptional service. Serving the product support teams and customers well is what provides best in class value for the MineStar solution. This position is also responsible for providing technical support to customers. There are frequent and regular interactions with customers and end users.

What You Will Do:

  • Lead the projects for current and legacy DSS platforms
  • Negotiate and manage technical requirements, communicate to stakeholders, team members, and platform groups
  • Participating in the processes of test review and analysis, test witnessing and certification of robotics software.
  • Consulting on the integration issues of robotic software with existing infrastructure components and products.
  • Leading in design, implementation, testing and release of software for robotic devices.
  • Provide Coaching and Technical Guidance to global team of Engineers along with Team development
  • Provide Project leadership & Governance
  • Provide leadership and governance on New Product Introduction (NPI), New Technology Introduction (NTI), Continuous Product Improvement (CPI), and Cost Reduction Projects

Education requirement:

Requires a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in an accredited Engineering or Computer Science field, with a strong background in Design Engineering.

  • Demonstrates knowledge with the architecture and design of major or multiple products.
  • Describes major software architecture alternatives and considerations.
  • Explains design considerations for commercial database systems, operating systems and web.
  • Displays knowledge in estimating the cost of a specific design of a proposed product.
  • Facilitates design reviews and walkthroughs.
  • Analyzes benefits and drawbacks of specific software designs and architecture.


Influencing Through Expertise:

  • Communicates complex engineering concepts clearly to cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates deep technical knowledge in mechanical systems and heavy equipment design.
  • Provides timely subject matter expertise across engineering, manufacturing, and operations.
  • Supports team development through mentorship, training, and technical guidance.

Project Management:

  • Leads high-impact engineering projects aligned with Caterpillar’s strategic goals.
  • Tracks project milestones, budgets, and deliverables using tools like MS Project and SAP.
  • Consults on planning and execution of high-risk, high-visibility engineering initiatives.
  • Coordinates with global teams and suppliers to ensure seamless project execution.

Top Candidates will also have:

  • Proven Design Project Leadership, deep technical knowledge, and intellectual curiosity
  • Working knowledge with Driver Safety Systems Technology
  • Software and Systems Development knowledge

Additional Information:

This position requires the candidate work full-time at the Tucson, Az or Mossville, IL office.

Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.

This position may require 15% travel.

Summary Pay Range:

$126,000.00 - $189,000.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
