Caterpillar Inc. seeks Senior Performance/Simulation/Application Engineer at its facility located at 14009 Old Galena Rd., Bldg E, Chillicothe, Illinois 61523. Perform complex simulation of engine structure problems for engine systems/subsystems to determine acceptability of engineering designs when compared to durability, reliability, and life targets. Support Caterpillar engine VPD development, NPI, and Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) issues by using various simulation tools to evaluate engine mechanical performance and durability. Learn and develop new simulation tools/processes for engine development. Perform development/validation of engine components and systems by evaluating complex failure modes and providing technical guidance for NPI/CPI products. Work with design and simulation teams on gage maps and dynamic engine test planning. Perform modal tests to identify resonant frequencies and mode shapes help simulation teams with model correlation. Perform necessary analysis and initiating ideas and design fixtures needed for shake table tests, instrumentation setups in lab and field tests and working with suppliers for procuring fixtures. Evaluate new products, processes or systems and communicate results to customers, suppliers, team members. Maintain direct contact with products, machines, or components while working in the field or at customer sites or may have direct contact with suppliers and customers to develop processes or resolve problems. REQS: This position requires a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Materials Science or a related field plus 5 years of experience in testing, design, or validation activities, or related occupation. In the alternative, the employer will accept: This position requires a Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Materials Science or related field plus 2 years of experience in testing, design, or validation activities, or related occupation. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) 2 years of experience with design, test and simulation teams on gage maps and engine test planning; (2) 2 years of experience with design, test and simulation engineers correlating models to ensure product quality for products; (3) Diesel or alternative fuel engine platforms 7.2L to 18L; (4) Simulation tools such as Abaqus and/or Hypermesh; (5) Failure Mode and Effects Analysis; and (6) Component or process improvements and/or patents for novel technology, or resolution of product issues focused on engine systems. Telecommuting: 2 days/week.

Summary Pay Range:

$133,266.00 - $165,840.00
