About IPSD

Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L engines that not only power Caterpillar machines, but also power over 5000 other applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Caterpillar’s company strategy includes sustainability as one of four focus areas and IPSD is engaged and actively preparing green energy solutions for the future.

Job Summary:

We’re seeking a Senior Design Engineer for our Fluid Systems Engineering team. This person will be responsible for directing/participating in complex engineering projects including the design, test, and development of new product concepts for release to production in a manner to ensure those products provide superior performance, durability, quality, and serviceability. You will conceive and provide practical product design experience using complex technical principles supporting build processes and influencing the integration of new product components and technologies.

What You Will Do:

  • Prepares concept, design, development, and feasibility studies of complex engineering projects.

  • Organizing, coordinating, and executing the building, testing, and analysis of prototypes.

  • Assisting supply specialists and buyers with supplier development and supplier performance.

  • Developing and documenting functional requirements and translating into detail design documents. Participating in buy-build analysis for product components.

  • Participating in and supporting proposal preparation, cost estimates, and technical reports.

  • Uses technical expertise and product knowledge to play the leadership role in the problem resolution process when interfacing with Test and Evaluation, Service, Plant personnel, suppliers, and consultants.

Degree Requirement
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited Mechanical or Agricultural Engineering program and 3–5 years of relevant experience; or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Agricultural Engineering and 1–2 years of relevant experience; or Doctoral degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Agricultural).

  • Knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized graphics programs with the ability to produce, analyze, simulate and test product design drafts

  • Creates and introduces new techniques that expedite or simplify the development process.

  • Supervises the management of multiple and diverse types of products or services.

  • Develop proof-of-concept exercises to prove or disprove validity of proposed products.

  • Advice on the appropriate solutions to complex product design and development problems.

  • Designs work prototypes of a variety of proposed products or services.

  • This position is on-site 5 days a week.

Summary Pay Range:

$110,520.00 - $165,840.00
