The Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD) is one of the most innovative divisions within Caterpillar. In PSLD, as within all of Caterpillar, our priority is our customers and helping them build a better world. We touch nearly every element of the services value stream from procurement to design and manufacturing to distribution. PSLD is responsible for Aftermarket Parts Distribution of Cat Parts, Integrated Logistics, segment Procurement and the design and manufacture of Wear Components (Undercarriage and GET) and Maintenance Components (Seals, Tubes & Hardware, Hose & Couplings, Fluids and Filters).
As the Manufacturing Engineer (Automation), you will be responsible for maintaining and improving processes and systems used in the manufacturing process. The Manufacturing Engineer will function as a specialist and subject matter expert for technical planning throughout the East Peoria, IL facility.

What You Will Do:
- Subject matter expert for machining/grinding/assembly related processes.
- Analyze requirements and make recommendations for facility systems, processes, training, equipment needs, and engineering product designs.
- Complete both specialized and broad-based assignments/projects which may require collaboration and integration with other functions.
- Evaluate automation projects and prepare feasibility studies to define desired results, assess value proposition and determine project plans.
- Analyze, provide specifications and perform acquisition for new or replacement machine tools.
- Perform capital forecasting correlation and reporting as it relates to new product introduction, product capacity increases, machine replacement and process continuous improvement.
- Perform process improvement activities to reduce material and machining costs.
- Analyze tooling failures and evaluate tool characteristics and requirements.
- Improve space utilization in manufacturing spaces.
- Create and maintain Process Flow, SFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plan, and Operational documentation.
- Development and implement processes in line with Caterpillar standard processes.
- Ability to create or modify CNC machines.
- Other duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time-to-time.
What You Have (Basic Qualifications):
- Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
- Judgment and Decision Making: Knowledge of the decision-making process; ability to carefully evaluate the impact of emerging business situations and choose the best path forward communicating actions and activities that maximize organizational performance.
- Lean Manufacturing: Knowledge of the philosophy, principles and implementation approaches of lean manufacturing; ability to integrate and implement lean manufacturing philosophy into existing production and management processes.
- Manufacturing Equipment: Knowledge of the electrical, mechanical and logistics equipment used in manufacturing; ability to safely operate, maintain, update and store them.
- Manufacturing Processes: Knowledge of existing product manufacturing methods, technologies and processes; ability to execute, plan, manage and monitor the entire manufacturing process.
- Manufacturing Safety: Knowledge of manufacturing safety; ability to identify work-related hazards and perform necessary activities to meet regulatory requirements for the safety and protection of workers, environment and site.
- Manufacturing Standards, Procedures and Policies: Knowledge of organizational standards, procedures and policies in manufacturing activities; ability to plan, guide, and monitor manufacturing processes for compliance.
- Problem Management Process: Knowledge of manufacturing problem management processes, methodologies and techniques; ability to use a disciplined approach to bringing that problem to a successful resolution.
What Will Set You Apart (Preferred Qualifications):
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or related field.
- Experience integrating robots, such as FANUC, ABB and/or KUKA, into assembly or machine tending-type processes/systems.
- Previous experience working in a components/assembly manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of LEAN theory and practices.
- Previous experience with SAP, CAD, and the Microsoft Office suite.
- Previous experience working with control systems, programming (ex., PLC, HMI), electronics, and automation.

Summary Pay Range:
$95,640.00 - $143,520.00Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
