This position designs, develops, builds, enables, and implements new MTP products, components, and technologies for the market-leading D8 Track Type Tractor. As a Senior Design Engineer at Caterpillar Inc., you will work as the architect of the various D8 models produced around the world, collaborating with design, validation, manufacturing, marketing, and other teams to provide the best solutions for our customers.
What You Will Do:
- Researching new materials, designs, technologies and competitive products. Organizing, coordinating, and executing the building, testing, and analysis of prototypes, pilots, and production machines. Managing various system teams and overall machine level releasing to meet timelines and quality targets for downstream users of engineering information. Meeting corporate guidelines around machine nomenclature, model quality and various other Teamcenter requirements.
- Assisting factories and global validation with development and performance support, from minor fit ups to large complete machine redesigns. Overseeing the efforts and layout of the machine bill of materials and overall space claim management among the various system teams.
- Developing and documenting functional machine requirements and translating into detail design documents. Participating in assembly analysis for product components. Working with regulations, pricing and commercial to deliver machine configurations that meet market demands across the world. Leading machine level design reviews to cover various topics with varying frequency.
- Participating in and supporting factory processes, cost estimates, and technical reports. Ownership of D8 related Sharepoint design issues and guiding the team to resolution and tracking of progress to meet goals. Support of the Unmet Manufacturing Needs process, collaborating with global facilities to resolve current issues and drive future manufacturing commonality across all facilities.
What You Have (Basic Qualifications):
- Degree requirement: Bachelor’s degree in engineering
- Effective Global Communication: Effective collaboration techniques and ability to build networks with people from different countries and cultures, think and work with them to bring positive impact and flourishing business results. The ability to organize and lead meetings of varying size from 5 people to 25+ people - with clear agendas, notes and action items documented and utilized to drive decisions.
- Analytical Thinking: Extensive understanding of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems. Experience with large 3D CREO and 3D Visualization (JT) models and how the various interactions can and will have impacts on downstream users.
- Product Design and Development: Proven experience with product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production. Along with strong familiarity with NPI tools and cadence. Experience with the Defect Free Operating System (DFOS) is a bonus.

- Office Model: Caterpillar requires employees to work onsite in the office five days a week.
- Travel: 15% domestic and international travel is expected.

Summary Pay Range:
$110,520.00 - $165,840.00Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
