Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L engines that not only power Caterpillar machines, but also power over 5000 other applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives.
IPSD Large Engines (IPSD-L) seeks an Accountant in Mossville, IL to provide financial governance and analysis to both its product management and engineering groups. Caterpillar provides exciting opportunities for accountants who want to be challenged and are interested in being part of the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, off-highway diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives. The role reports directly to the Sr. Accounting Manager responsible for supporting the product and engineering organizations within IPSD Large Engines.
What You Will Do:
- Financial analysis and monthly reporting of results for IPSD-L research and engineering expenses
- Presentation and explanation of results to key leadership including the IPSD-L Product Manager and Chief Engineer
- Business support for IPSD-L’s lab operations at the Mossville Tech Center
- Business support for IPSD-L’s warranty reporting and analysis
- Development of forecast scenarios including:
- Annual prioritization of research and engineering programs
- Annual Business Plan
- Rolling Business Management quarterly forecasts (RBMs)
- Other ad-hoc scenarios
- Budget and forecasting support of new product introduction (NPI) and other critical programs as necessary
- Development of reporting dashboards for use by key stakeholders
- Use of business systems/tools including, but not limited to Axiom, Ledger Systems, Power BI, etc.
What you Have:
- Education/Experience: 4-year degree, preferably in accounting or finance and 3 – 5 years of accounting/finance experience.
- Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision.
- Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
- Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
- Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
- Managing Multiple Priorities: Knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.
- Accounting: Knowledge of accounting methods, processes, and tools; ability to maintain and prepare financial statements and reports using accounting methods and processes.
- Financial Analysis: Knowledge of tools and approaches of financial analysis; ability to read, interpret and draw accurate conclusions from financial and numerical material.
- Financial Reporting: Knowledge of processes, methods, and tools of financial reporting; ability to create and maintain accurate and thorough financial reports.
Top Candidates will also have:
- Professional Certification (CPA or CMA)
- Demonstrated ability to perform analysis on large datasets and coordinate with stakeholder groups
- Prior experience with or willingness to learn new tools such as Axiom, Ledger Systems, Power BI, etc.

- This position will be located in Mossville, IL
