Caterpillar Inc. seeks Sr. Engineer-Perf/Sim/App at its facility located at 14009 Old Galena Rd. Bldg L, Chillicothe, IL 61523.
Serve as an experienced, individual contributor on projects and assignments that are complex in nature and that support and enhance Caterpillar product performance, durability, reliability, quality, and serviceability. Build significant, deep expertise in one or multiple technical areas. Accountable for contributing to the identification, analysis, and resolution of needs and problems in a discipline for which the incumbent is beginning to build a reputation as an expert. Perform complex analysis work, identify, and resolve problems. Work more directly with different units, suppliers, customers, and/or other teams and begin enhancing general and business skills. Ability to communicate technical information in a concise and accurate manner. Decision may significantly impact on product performance, durability, quality, reliability, and serviceability. Responsible for negotiations with suppliers. Leverage new technologies, warranty, total cost of non-quality, costs, sales, and customer perception. Responsible for developing and validating engine and aftertreatment control systems for current and future diesel, dual fuel, and spark ignited natural gas engine products, including control/simulation requirements development. Modelling of control algorithms for system simulation and control software generation, modelling of engine and engine sub-system physical dynamics, and system simulation and performance analysis, all supporting diesel engines, dual fuel engines, spark ignited natural gas engines, and aftertreatment systems with a focus on control system design, analysis, and validation.
REQS: This position requires a Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field and Two (2) years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Design Engineer, or related occupation in the field of developing performance, controls, or simulations of heavy-duty diesel, spark-ignited, dual fuel engines with aftertreatment. In the alternative, the employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field and Five (5) years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Design Engineer, or related occupation in the field of developing performance, controls, or simulations of heavy-duty diesel, spark-ignited, dual fuel engines with aftertreatment. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) MATLAB and Simulink with Control Systems Toolbox; (2) Vector CANape; (3) GT-Power; (4) Classical control theory with Single Input Single Output (SISO) systems; (5) Control system development process, including verification and validation process for the same through simulation, bench testing, and in application testing; and (6) 2 years of product development experience using NPI and NTI process.
Travel: 10% domestic travel to support troubleshooting issues at customer sites.
