As a Principal Product Owner on the Value Selling & Simulation Team (VSST), you will be responsible for defining the strategy, requirements and acceptance criteria for software features in Caterpillar’s Value Simulation Tool (VST). Primary focus will be workflows/feature enhancements related to services growth solution offerings, electrification, energy & transportation, financial analysis, data source integrity & automation, user support system, and commercialization of VST analytics.

VST software is used by Caterpillar field members, Caterpillar dealers, and customers around the world to support the selection of Caterpillar solution offerings of machines, technology, fleets, site optimization, and services growth offerings. This role collaborates closely with users, product groups, services growth staff, technical marketing experts, financial services staff, and the overall VSST staff. This position heavily influences strategy and future direction of business decisions and offers extensive exposure to product group & services partners, global sales and marketing, dealer & customer interaction, and agile software development processes.


What You Will Do:

  • Principal Product Owner is responsible for strategy and requirements of VST workflows related to services, electrification, energy & transportation, financial analysis, source data integrity & automation, and user support system which represent a significant portion of VST’s functionality.
  • Document feedback from VST users, business partners, and admins. Lead business team discussions to transform user feedback into innovative and intuitive feature enhancement ideas.
  • Drive business partner commitment for people resources, data, and funding required to develop, deploy, maintain, and support user workflows and feature enhancements.
  • Prioritize enhancements based on user need, business impact, business partner funding across multiple divisions.
  • Lead cross functional VSST / business partner discovery sessions for new workflows/feature enhancements. Lead commercial team through voice of business / software maintenance prioritization / tradeoff discussions.
  • Define detailed functionality and acceptance criteria for workflow items, documented by project manager in Azure DevOps / GitHub. Collaborate with VSST’s software team to design, develop and test enhancements.
  • Responsible for feature enhancement testing within sprint release cadence to ensure software quality / ease of use.
  • Collaborate with VSST’s commercial team for deployment strategy and user support needs.
  • Travel up to 20%

What You Will Have:

  • Products and Services: Extensive experience working with major products and services groups; ability to apply knowledge of product and service appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Relationship Management: Extensive experience using relationship management techniques; ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with clients, vendors, and peers.
  • Software Product Training: Extensive experience providing of software product training; ability to create and deliver training on the implementation, operation and utilization of technology products and systems.

  • 10+ years services/product support/engineering experience
  • Field experience through dealer-facing and/or customer facing roles
  • Strong cross-functional teambuilding / motivational skills
