Role Definition
The Drivetrain Control Systems & Validation Division within LPSD is seeking to fill a Development & Research Senior Engineering Specialist position. This is a new role focused on worldwide validation excellence, strategy and execution for Upper & Lower Powertrain hardware development. With so many machine programs evaluating new powertrain system architectures there will be a strong need to strategize, plan and define the necessary facilities, resources, training and standards to achieve validation excellence for some of CAT’s most differentiated products. This role provides the opportunity to be a trusted advisor to machine teams and drivetrain platform leads to support the multi-generational product plans by being an important contributor to FMEA’s, facility design, training, process and product development and validation innovation.
Responsibilities
Development of engineering quality strategies & standards for all physical lab & field test procedures that support lower powertrain gear, bearing, shafts, differentials, seals, final drives and brakes, this includes: Test method standards, Instrumentation & gaging best practices, Test data analysis standards, Test acceptance criteria, and Reporting & documentation standards.
Track program MGPP’s for all platforms & develop asset & resource plans, which may include managing new facility capital investments, 3rd party validation & field site management
Establish & develop a worldwide development strategy for physical lab & field Upper & Lower Powertrain hardware validation (non-controls related validation)
Evaluate & implement new technologies for the purpose of validation excellence
Significantly contribute to program FMEA’s & validation plans for the purpose of risk mitigation
Guide & mentor lab & field test engineers & ensure validation team members are aware of customer, business & enterprise changes or needs
Champion rigorous standard work, process discipline, and documentation
Ensure client velocity, quality, and cost expectations are met
Proactively interact with business partners to develop, understand, and manage their requirements and expectations
Communicate effectively with management and business partners
Degree Requirement
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university

Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.
Computer-Aided Design & Engineering: Level Extensive Experience
Knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized graphics programs; ability to produce, analyze, simulate and test product design drafts.
Product Development Life Cycle - MFG: Level Expert
Knowledge of the methodology and associated phases, activities and deliverables of product development life cycle in manufacturing organizations; ability to bring new or enhanced products to the marketplace.
Product Testing: Level Extensive Experience
Knowledge of product testing approaches, techniques and tools; ability to design, plan and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure product quality at all stages of manufacturing.
Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Level Expert
Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment.
Top candidates will also have
Deep technical knowledge of lab & field-based product development processes & capabilities
Knowledge in drivetrain hardware design and/or validation, particularly in lower powertrain systems & upper powertrain gear, bearing & clutches
Robust understanding of instrumentation design & data acquisition capability & installation
Knowledge in defining lab-based component & system facility design requirements

The location for this position is Mossville, IL (Tech Center - Building G)
Relocation assistance is NOT available for this position.
This position may require less than 10% travel.
