The Sr. Data Scientist is a technical professional in analytics approach, related digital technology, or business domain. You will be a contact point in the use of a particular analytics technique, associated digital technology, or in the application of analytics in a particular business domain (specifically in Strategic Capacity Planning). The Sr. Data Scientist is one of the experienced technical experts whose breadth of knowledge in analytic techniques may be relied upon.
Enterprise Capacity Planning (ECP) team uses quantitative methods such as business simulations, data mining, modeling, and advanced statistical techniques to solve problems. The Sr. Data Scientist contributes to this mission by acting as direct support of a technical lead and executing and leading analytics projects tasked with solving problems of medium to medium-high complexity.
What you will do:
Maximize Operating Profit through improvements in Strategic Supplier and Internal facility capacity planning, Inventory Costs, Product Sourcing plans, etc.
Determine the future demand and capacity levels for each part number.
Assess the chance of running out of capacity; and developing simulation/optimization capabilities to model a new facility or production asset investments.
Assist with high-profile enterprise-wide projects such as the Engineered Value Chain.
Under the direction of their leader, this position will participate on cross-functional project teams, provide overall guidance to the technical direction of the project, and potentially mentor Jr Data Scientists on the technical approaches being used to solve a problem presented by a Caterpillar Business Units or Service Organizations.
Significant objectives of this position are working with people; enhancing the team’s creativity; maintaining knowledge of approaches used in similar projects; and challenging the technical bounds of experimentation while meeting customer commitments.
The Sr. Data Scientist acts as the overall technical lead for a project team in establishing a sound approach for solving the problem at hand. The incumbent will demonstrate aptitude to grow a good network within the technical community to enable them to collaborate on technical solutions, obtain resources and cooperation needed, and remove roadblocks so that they can ensure the success of their team.
What Skills you will have:
Programming Languages: 3 years of experience with SQL and Python.
Business Statistics: Demonstrate a breadth and depth of knowledge in the application of statistical and/or digital methods to solve business problems. Demonstrate strong initiative to research and apply new methods and digital technologies to exceed customer expectations.
Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision. The Sr. Data Scientist demonstrates very good communication skills and the ability to explain conclusions to customers with limited knowledge and experience with quantitative analytical methods. Candidates for this position will be expected to have a penchant for innovation, and above average initiative, people development, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrate competency in coaching and mentoring Jr. Data Scientists in the creation, validation, and application of statistical models as well as in implementing digital solutions.
Analytical Thinking: Significant knowledge in the use of Data Analytics software solutions. Demonstrate strong customer focus in the application of Analytics techniques and digital technologies to solve business problems. Have a strong focus on continual learning in the Analytics field
Machine Learning: Knowledge of principles, technologies and algorithms of machine learning; ability to develop, implement and deliver related systems, products and services.
Query and Database Access Tools: Knowledge of data management systems; ability to use, support and access facilities for searching, extracting and formatting data for further use.
Requirements Analysis: Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.
Top Candidates will also have:
Experience with business statistics and developing algorithms.
Demonstrate knowledge of Caterpillar Inc.; its products and services; its internal systems, processes, and procedures; and its relevant external influences (competitors, laws and regulations, market conditions, etc.)

The primary location for this position is Peoria, IL.
