Our Logistics Information Services (LIS) seeks one talented, highly motivated IT professional to fill a critical role as a Database Administrator for the Caterpillar Product Support & Logistics Division (PSLD). This role serves as a strategic partner to our Caterpillar Integrated Logistics Division. As a Database Administrator, you will work on a global team comprised of data architects, DBAs, and data scientists and business partners based in the United States and global team members in India, Brazil and Europe. As a member of our Integrated Logistics IT team, you will serve as a trusted IT resource for architects, functional experts, developers and project managers to develop and drive the database and data roadmap. You will have an important role ensuring ongoing support and project activities result in high performing and highly available data systems.

You will work with data architects to identify opportunities to promote leading industry practices and adopt new technology to deliver on the database, data warehouse and data analytics roadmap.

Primary job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Creating storage database structures with high-level security features.

  • Altering storage structures to meet the evolving needs of the company.

  • Build proactive, responsive relationships with the internal IT teams and Caterpillar/Enterprise IT teams to ensure alignment with technology solutions.

  • Work with solution architects to support project recommendations covering scope, resources, approach, solution options, risk/assumptions, design, and implementation of quality solutions.

  • Collaborate with architects and support teams to execute planned projects, execute roadmap, and deliver database and data warehouse support.

  • Maintain the infrastructure of IT systems that support the business to function efficiently.

  • Design solutions by assessing and aligning the current systems to best practices and comply to federal policies and procedures.

  • Conduct updates, upgrades, and other maintenance tasks in both hardware and software areas, to make the network more efficient, cost-effective, and secure.

What You Have - Skills and Experiences:

  • Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various databases; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges. For example, installing and maintaining the database software, setting up database user accounts, assisting users on how to access the information in the database, finding and debugging malfunctioning programs affecting the database integrity, creating and supporting database backups process, regularly updating the database security protocols, create databases to store electronic data, set database parameters or specifications.

  • Systems Software Infrastructure: Knowledge of computer architecture and database system software interaction; ability to design and build a fundamental architecture of operating systems, database management systems, communications protocols, compilers and other development tools. Reports software connectivity and integration issues. Demonstrates planned software changes in the local environment. Administers software migration and contingency plans related to own function. Analyzes the local software architecture components and products.
    Tests key features for the entire software infrastructure environment.
    Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on database, hardware, software, application or operation. Discovers, analyzes, and resolves hardware, software or application problems. Works with vendor-specific diagnostic guides, tools and utilities. Handles calls related to product features, applications, and compatibility standards. Analyzes code, logs, and current systems as part of advanced troubleshooting. Records and reports specific technical problems, solving processes and tools that have been used.

Preferred Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree and complex IT experience, including database administration.

  • Proven work experience as a Database administrator.

  • Familiarity with Oracle database design, coding, and documentation.

  • Knowledge of database backup procedures, recovery systems, and SQL.

  • Knowledge of programming languages and APIs.

  • Expertise in Snowflake database administration.
