We are looking for a dynamic, organized self-starter to join our Product Support and Logistics Division as a Design Engineer.

The Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD) is one of the most innovative divisions within Caterpillar. In PSLD, as within all of Caterpillar, our priority is our customers and helping them build a better world. PSLD is responsible for Aftermarket Parts Distribution of Cat Parts, Integrated Logistics, segment Procurement and the design and manufacture of Wear Components (Undercarriage and GET) and Maintenance Components (Seals, Tubes & Hardware, Hose & Couplings, Fluids and Filters).

As a Design Engineer, you will have the responsibility to support the design, analysis, and application of rolling element bearings used in Caterpillar machines. This role will enable the development of key design and analysis skills to build strong and strategic relationships with machine business unit and drivetrain process partners. You will collaborate to provide technical guidance to global teams while strengthening your analytical skills and mastery of engineering concepts. This role will contribute to the planning and delivery of projects associated with New Product Introduction (NPI), Continuous Product Improvement (CPI), Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Enterprise Strategic Initiatives.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide rolling element bearing technical expertise for drivetrain and machine NPI and CPI programs.

  • Perform bearing application analysis and deliver design recommendations.

  • Communicate requirements and analytical results to process partners, suppliers, team members, and other business units.

  • Facilitate collaboration with internal procurement teams and the bearing supply base.

  • Create and update engineering drawings.

  • Understand and follow Caterpillar specifications and design guides.

  • Provide technical support for aftermarket growth projects.

  • Champion factory assembly best practices with process partners.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering

Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems. Seeks discrepancies and inconsistencies in available information; explains variances. Organizes and prioritizes the sequence of steps to be taken to remedy the situation. Identifies many possible causes for a problem based on prior experience and current research. Quantifies the costs, benefits, risks, and chances for success before recommending a course of action. Approaches a complex problem by breaking it down into its component parts.

Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors. Listens to feedback without defensiveness and uses it for own communication effectiveness. Makes oral presentations and writes reports needed for own work. Looks for and considers non-verbal cues from individuals and groups. Presents technical information at a level appropriate for the audience to understand.

Managing Multiple Priorities: Knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation. Recognizes changing demands and priorities; validates changes with management. Obtains information about how current assignments contribute to organizational goals. Responds to day-to-day operational priorities while still making progress on project work. Performs at least 2-3 concurrent activities without reducing productivity.

Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges. Provides effective technical solutions to routine functional challenges via sound technical competence, effectively examining implications of events and issues. Effectively performs the technical job aspects, continuously building knowledge and keeping up-to-date on technical and procedural job components. Applies current procedures and technologies to help resolve technical issues in one’s general area of technical competence. Helps others solve technical or procedural problems or issues.

Product Design and Development: Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production. Communicates with professionals to understand various requirements for product design. Evaluates alternative means of production being considered for use. Advises others on the development of multiple products and their functionality, as well as advanced tools and approaches for product design. Monitors the processes and procedures of a complex product design to ensure functional requirements are met. Evaluates feedback from customers and consults on functional weaknesses. Controls design and development costs of a proposed product.

Top Candidates will also have:

  • Design, development, or analysis experience related to rolling element bearings

  • Mechanical aptitude

  • Project management skills – develop, maintain, and execute a project plan

  • Analytical skills and data analytics experience

  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and Power BI

  • Experience with Creo and Team Center

  • Experience in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • This position does not offer relocation and is located in Mossville Building H

  • This position requires 10% or less travel
