Job Summary:
At Caterpillar’s East Peoria, IL facility, we manufacture and assemble Track Type Tractors. In this role as a Weld Engineer, you will report to the Manager Manufacturing Engineering, and will be primarily responsible for overseeing the manufacturing process for welded structures by using appropriate technologies, tools, and equipment. As a member of the Engineering team, you will need to have a growth mindset, promote continuous improvement, and help build a defect-free culture. What you will do:
Examining and resolving defects in work pieces using various technologies, tools and equipment.
Adhering to quality assurance policies and procedures to ensure that work pieces are fabricated according to instructions.
Designing and/or maintaining a manufacturing process to weld metal parts together in required configurations.
Utilizing expertise of various manual or automatic welding systems to safely and accurately fabricate a quality metal structure.

Level Working Knowledge:
• Utilizes quality indicators relevant to own unit or function.
• Adheres to organizational quality management processes and practices.
• Applies key aspects of continuous improvement processes and evaluates impact on quality.
• Uses quality evaluation tools and techniques such as walkthroughs and inspections.
• Works with quality assurance methods, tools and techniques.
Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
Level Extensive Experience:
• Ensures capture of lessons to be learned from a problem-solving effort.
• Organizes potential problem solvers and leads problem resolution efforts.
• Uses varying problem-solving approaches and techniques as appropriate.
• Contributes to standard practices for problem-solving approaches, tools, and processes.
• Analyzes and synthesizes information and devises alternative resolution strategies.
• Develops successful resolutions to critical or wide-impact problems.
Metal Fabrication: Knowledge of metal fabrication and installation standards and specifications; ability to assemble and fabricate metal structures.
Level Extensive Experience:
• Teaches organizational best practices for metal fabrication within the organization.
• Designs metal structures to fit specific fabrication and installation requirements.
• Guides and monitors health and safety related practices during metal fabrication processes.
• Supervises metal fabrication processes and ensures work procedures are followed correctly.
• Analyzes metal fabrication costs and the feasibility and stability of metal structure designs.
• Coaches others on handling, welding, erecting and assembling metal pieces.
Welding - MFG: Knowledge of welding methods, processes and techniques within a manufacturing facility; ability to use tools and equipment to weld relevant components and fill seams and holes as required.
Level Expert:
• Mentors others in evaluating, selecting and testing welding materials, tools and equipment.
• Constructs a monitoring system to ensure adherence to welding quality standards.
• Leads periodic reviews of existing welding processes, procedures and techniques.
• Promotes advanced welding methods and technology and makes recommendations to use within the organization.
• Predicts the development of new methodologies and technologies for welding.
• Advocates for the application of advanced welding tools and technologies to improve productivity.
Education and Experience requirement:
Bachelor’s degree or 7+ years of Welding experience in lieu of degree
3+ year’s experience in various Welding positions
Preferred to hold CWI

The primary location for this position is East Peoria, IL
