Job Summary:
At Caterpillar’s East Peoria, IL facility, we manufacture and assemble large and medium Track Type Tractors. In this role as a Manufacturing Engineering Manager, you will report to the Director of Manufacturing Operations and will be primarily responsible for leadership, mentoring and managing the departments of Manufacturing Engineering, Environmental Health and Safety, and Facilities Engineering and Maintenance to support manufacturing and plant operations to ensure profitability. As a member of the Manufacturing Engineering team, you will need to have a growth mindset, promote continuous improvement, and help build a defect-free culture. What you will do:
Manages the Manufacturing Engineering expertise and provides guidance to establish the necessary requirements for cost effective manufacturing or assembly processes. Controls plant layouts, machine moves, and new equipment installations.
Responsible for all plant maintenance, repair/replacement, upgrading of existing fabricating, machining, painting, testing and assembly capabilities. Assures efficient performance of factory operations and minimizes operating costs through selection of tools, space layouts, equipment, and manufacturing sequences.
Responsible for compliance of safety/health/environmental programs with company standards, government regulations, and adequacy relative to local conditions. Accountable for generating and reviewing of reports for environmental (EPA) and safety (OSHA) agencies.
Accountable for mentoring, coaching and training for safety/health/environmental hazards inherent in the organization’s operations, and works with EHS manager or corporate EHS to establish guidelines for protection from those hazards.
Ensures assigned facilities and methods are provided for the manufacture of products in line with authorized product programs and capacity schedules. Provides tools, services and methods needed by factory areas to meet current executive schedules capable of achieving objectives and supporting manufacturing operations.
Coordinates all capital projects related to assigned factories including forecasting, planning and monitoring special projects to completion. Provides related reports to upper management.
Responsible for all plant maintenance, repair, replacement, and or upgrades to the facility.
Keeps abreast of manufacturing technologies and controls forecasts. Maintains effective liaisons with all departments to ensure overall manufacturing objects are met. Develops and maintains an effective organization
Ensures employees stay abreast of technology advances and actual shop needs for the purpose of providing the best possible tools and equipment. Develops and implements a master plan to address the long-range cost reduction objectives.
Impacts project performance (time, cost, quality, capacity), customer satisfaction, facility operations, asset utilization product performance, and cost management.
The position manages a work unit of management, support, and hourly employees where monitoring and reviewing work of subordinates is required as well as training, developing and mentoring. The position is responsible for all personnel issues and performance evaluation of subordinates.
What you will have:
Bachelor of Science from an ABET-accredited Engineering Degree Program.
10+ years of progressively responsible job-related experience.
Top Candidates will also have:
Master of Science in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering Degree from an ABET-accredited Engineering Degree Program
Caterpillar or other prime product operations, quality, supply chain and manufacturing engineering experience.

The primary location for this position is East Peoria, IL
