Caterpillar Defense is the world’s foremost supplier of earthmoving equipment, engines and power generators for government agencies and military forces. Caterpillar Defense is seeking a Senior Configuration Engineer to support new and exciting large scale product development programs. These programs are still in the concept phases and will focus on integration of Caterpillar commercial powertrain components into new, land based, military vehicles. As a Senior Configuration Engineer, you will use your strong technical and leadership abilities to coordinate across multiple design functional groups to direct the concept designs and make system level design tradeoffs needed to meet high level functional deliverables.
JOB DUTIES:
Provide overall configuration leadership during the concept, design, development, and validation of future hybrid drivetrain solutions for governmental applications.
Guide a multi-functional team of design engineers to plan and execute Defense NPI programs to meet customer needs for performance, reliability, and durability within the constraints of program deadlines, product price, and program expense targets.
Coordination of BOM (Bill of Material) and drawing release plans for machine builds, machine updates, and production implementation.
Coordination and execution of NPI prototype, pilot, and production machine builds at the PPG (Peoria Proving Ground) facility.
Lead platform level issue resolution meetings for robust and timely resolution of NPI build, test, and field driven issues.
Identify and coordinate completion of validation activities of designs, which may include simulation, lab testing, and on-machine testing.
Some travel (<5%) to suppliers, customers, and manufacturing facilities will be required.
Basic Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an Engineering curriculum or Engineering Technology
5 or more years of progressive engineering and product development experience
Ability to facilitate a highly collaborative and inclusive team culture to work through difficult issues.
Proficiency in engineering systems such as Creo, TeamCenter, and EDS
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
Prior development experience or general knowledge of electrification and alternative power sources
Experience with LPPD, FEA, and FMEAs
Component or machine product development experience
Experience with NPI, SharePoint, and Teamcenter tools/processes
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated business management skills including product cost, pricing, margins, OPACC, ROI, NPV, and IRR
