The Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD) is one of the most innovative divisions within Caterpillar. In PSLD, as within all of Caterpillar, our priority is our customers and helping them build a better world. We touch nearly every element of the services value stream from procurement to design and manufacturing to distribution. PSLD is responsible for Aftermarket Parts Distribution of Cat Parts, Integrated Logistics, segment Procurement and the design and manufacture of Wear Components (Undercarriage and GET) and Maintenance Components (Seals, Tubes & Hardware, Hose & Couplings, Fluids and Filters).

What You Will Do:
As a Senior Design Engineer you will work within the Large Dozer Undercarriage design team of the Undercarriage Product Group, part of the Wear Components organization within PSLD. This position supports large dozer undercarriage, with a product scope covering components within the moving for D9-D11 dozers and other projects as assigned. You will be accountable for contributing to the concept, development, and design of complex components, subsystems, or processes. This position performs complex analysis work, identifies design problems, and resolves problems. Although this position may be the transition from individual contributor to team leadership, the major focus of the role is on technical delivery.
Job duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Incumbents may work directly with different units, suppliers, customers, and/or other teams, which requires the ability to communicate technical information in a concise and accurate manner
Decisions may significantly impact negotiations with suppliers, leveraging new technologies, warranty, costs, sales, and customer perception
Requires excellent analytical skills and a mastery of engineering concepts
Incumbent must balance cost, reliability, and performance, while prioritizing multiple projects
This position must keep up to date on changing customer needs as the project progresses, stay current with new technology, and providence guidance and direction on the project to less experienced engineers, technologists, and technicians
Incumbents may be expected to bear significant responsibility for completion of a project with major focus on delivery
Key skills to be developed at this level are failure prediction and management, technology time/cost analysis, spatial design, conceptual design, practical application of theory, knowledge of the New Product Introduction (NPI) process, and communication skills
Travels worldwide to suppliers, production plans, dealerships, customer job sites, and field test locations related to the development of engineering projects and problem resolution
Other duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time-to-time
What You Have (Basic Qualifications):
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Materials Science
5 (plus) years of engineering experience
The ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 10% of the time
Ability to demonstrate mastery of complex engineering and manufacturability concepts
Good mechanical aptitude with ability to develop product concepts
