As a Design Engineer at Caterpillar in the Fluid Systems Engineering Team, you will participate in complex engineering projects including the design, test and development of new product concepts for release to production in a manner to ensure those products provide superior performance, durability, quality, and serviceability. Emphasis of this position is on creating concepts and executing the design and development of complex engineering projects.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

• Prepares concept, design, development, and feasibility studies of complex engineering projects.

• Executes the product development process coordinating the design, analysis, and computer simulation effort.

• Prepares development plans and is responsible for meeting scheduled dates.

• Detailed interaction with Plant locations and various engineering departments.

• Conducts technical evaluations of major systems on competitive products.

• Coordinates product tests with prove design and prototype build up and test areas.

• Evaluates, defines, and resolves design and manufacturing problems.

• Uses technical expertise and product knowledge in the problem resolution process when interfacing with Test and Evaluation, Service, Plant personnel, suppliers, and consultants.

• Works with manufacturability teams resolving problems with manufacturing and statistical process controls.

• Keeps abreast of latest technological advancements and prepares design concepts and develops unique product design features the Company often patents to gain competitive advantage.

• Travels worldwide to suppliers, production plants, dealerships, customer job sites, and field test locations related to the development of engineering projects and problem resolution.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in an accredited Mechanical or Agricultural Engineering, curriculum plus 3-5 years’ experience or a Master’s Degree in Mechanical or Agricultural Engineering, plus 1 to 2 years’ experience or a doctorate engineering degree.

• Outstanding analytical, organizational, communication and time management skills.

• Ability to work in a team environment, communicating technical information and development progress to team members and others

Top candidates will also have:

• Ability to gain a mastery of complex engineering and manufacturability concepts.

• Good mechanical aptitude with ability to develop product concepts.

• Demonstrated leadership ability taking a product design from concept to production.

• CAD Design Experience (Creo, Pro/E, Solidworks, etc.)

• Simulation led design experience, ability to iterate designs quickly based on analysis results.
