Description
This position supports nondestructive testing (NDT) on welded structures. This role is to learn and grow in nondestructive weld inspection methods. Projects will relate to weld quality research and supporting Caterpillar’s business units globally. This role will support a variety of Caterpillar machines and get the opportunity to visit various fabrication facilities.
Job Duties
This role is part of Caterpillar’s Manufacturing Technology and Solutions division that supports manufacturing research and business unit needs throughout Caterpillar. The structures and welding team supports simulation, welding related technology research and development, and weld quality. Current NDT methods include ultrasonics, phased-array ultrasonic, magnetic particle, dye penetrant and visual inspection. This role will also support development of welding quality related specifications, standards, and manufacturing processes.
What you will do:
- Inspect welds in research, manufacturing facilities, and in the field
- Use knowledge of weld process fundamentals to perform quality analysis
- Support weld related nondestructive testing (NDT) research
- Review weld inspection process for critical joints
- Development of weld inspection plans for various parts and products
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology or Manufacturing Technology from an accredited college or university or 3-5 years of experience in NDT lieu of a degree.
- 1-3 years of experience or basic understanding in ultrasonic, phased-array ultrasonic, magnetic particle, dye penetrant and welding processes (GMAW preferred)
- Ability to travel internationally 25-50% of the time
Top Candidates will also have
- Nondestructive testing Associates degree or Minor
- American Society for Nondestructive Testing certification
- American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector certification
- Prior experience in inspection or welding fabrication
- Ability to understand both technology and business domains
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Multi-lingual capability
- Experience in a manufacturing facility

The location for this position is Mossville, IL.
Domestic relocation is available for this position.
This position may require 25-50% travel.
