Caterpillar, the largest Construction Equipment manufacturer in the World, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to be part of our engineering team in our Peoria, IL facility.
The role will direct and participate in the design and development of new product concepts and complex engineering projects for release to production in a manner to ensure products provide superior performance, durability, quality, and serviceability. Position will work both as an individual contributor and as part of a project team on Caterpillar Earthmoving equipment such as, but not limited to Wheel Loaders, Track-type Tractors, Motor Graders, Compactors, Pavers, Cold Planers and Rotary Mixers.
Job Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Concept and develop mechanical components & systems that may include large structural components, hydraulic integration, light structures & fabrications, operator stations, and/or engine installation systems.
- Directing, supporting and/or executing Virtual Product Development using analysis, simulation, and creation of the machines systems, as well as the product’s “Digital Twin”
- Communication with suppliers and customers on product selection and integration
- Direct and assist in the creation and support specific documentation required for release and production
- Collaborate with manufacturing, product verification & validation, & suppliers to develop efficient & cost-effective designs
- Compile and furnish necessary information (engineering decisions and reports of pertinent design analyses data) to document the design solutions required for building of prototypes and adoption of the design with possible involvement of other functional engineers.
- Communicate technical information to team members, leaders, and managers
Basic qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering or Materials Science curriculum
- Industry experience in mechanical design
- Knowledge of principles and procedures of the design process from concept through manufacturing
- Experience with CREO or other industry standard CAD software.
- Self-starter, with good mechanical aptitude and the ability to develop product concepts
Top Candidates will also have:
- Data analytics and/or computer science background
- Experience with FMEA
- Prior experience with design of construction equipment
- Strong leadership ability, good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
- Excellent analytical skills; experience with system simulation and analysis tools
- Emphasis on initiative and self-starting tasks
