What you can expect: If you enjoy operating, testing and troubleshooting heavy equipment, we have a great opportunity for you as an Experimental Mechanic (R&D) at our Peoria Proving Ground. As an Experimental Mechanic, you will perform expert engineering evaluations and/or testing on various models of construction equipment or other product lines while using safe work practices. This may also include utilizing your expertise and advanced skills to lead projects and/or teams to complete site work in support of engineering tests or facility work.
Basic Qualifications:
5 years of experience & demonstrated skill in heavy equipment repair, assembly, and disassembly
Combination of education and experience as a diesel mechanic with military equipment/vehicles, construction, or related large equipment and/or semi-tractors.
Top Candidate Will Bring:
Two-year technical degree within the disciplines of automotive technology, agricultural technology, heavy equipment technology, or diesel mechanic technology.
5 years of mechanic work experience in the construction equipment or farming machinery industry.

Shift: 1st Shift, Monday-Friday
Hours: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Location: Peoria, IL - Peoria Proving Grounds
What We Offer
Compensation: $29.41HR; Grade 5 with overtime options, Quarterly Employee Rewards eligibility. UAW.

Additional day-to-day details:
Assemble the entire prototype machine
Perform the buildup of sub-assemblies that include modifications to current production models, or minor changes to a configuration in preparation for machine test activity
Reading blueprints, sketches, computer generated models, and written instructions from the supervisor or engineers.
Plan the method and sequence of the assembly.
Operate hand tools, portable power tools, power presses, simple machine tools, and the powered crane to assemble parts into a complete unit, making alterations and hand fitting parts when necessary.
Utilize various precision gaging tools to check accuracy of assembly and fitting operations.
Operate machine/device to check assembly and performance.
Make suggestions concerning methods of overcoming difficulties encountered in assembly/disassembly, reasons for parts failure, possible changes in design to correct failure or dismantling of the test.
