We are looking for a dynamic, organized and self-starter technician to join our Power Systems & Controls Development (PS&CD) team in Mossville, IL.
As a Lab Support Electrical Technician, you will serve as an individual contributor on complex, exciting projects in field of electrification and green energy. You will be a part of the test execution team and will be responsible for building prototype CAT electrification related products and test setups for laboratory testing. This area of work will involve mechanical and electrical setups in the field of Li-Ion Battery systems, Fuel Cell Systems, Inverters, chargers, and Energy storage systems.
You will be working under the guidance of lead build & test engineers and will be performing hands-on work, parts coordination, build documentation & effective communications across cross-functional team.
This role involves supporting development and testing work is dynamic, fast paced with opportunities to grow and develop.
Job Duties
Assists with prototype electrical product assemblies and sub-assemblies in various build stages with critical eye on safety.
Installing test and data acquisition equipment in lab setups.
Aid in the build of HV and LV harness by reading electrical schematics & wiring diagrams.
Help develop build books, document, and effectively communicate build issues to senior team members.
Makes suggestions concerning methods of overcoming difficulties encountered in assembly/disassembly and reasons for parts failure.
Initiate possible changes in design to correct failure, and any other pertinent criticisms or data gained while performing assembly/disassembly or dismantling or construction.
Evaluate and determine reusability of hardware from builds.
Isolate defects in wiring, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment.
Work on live electrical systems (like batteries) up to 2000V with appropriate PPE.
Basic Qualifications
Diploma (with reputable electrical technician course like NCCER Level 4) OR GED required with 8-10 years of electrical technical experience, OR 2-yr associate degree in electrical technology.
5+ years of industry experience with hands on experience in power electronics with voltage levels of up to 2000V (AC & DC)
Top candidates will also have
Familiarity with using design software like AutoCAD electrical, Pro-E, JT2Go
Ability to read and understand electrical prints
Expertise with using ArchFlash PPE & experience with working on energized systems.
Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
Experience/understanding of electrical functional safety (NFPA 70E)
Understanding and experience with DC and AC theory as applies to inverters, rectifiers, transformers, and power supplies.
Strong work ethic, clear communication and eye to safety is required.
Experience with assembly & disassembly of Li-Ion Battery systems is a plus
Experience/understanding of hydrogen system functional safety is a plus
Microsoft office – Excel & Word familiarity
Solid written & verbal communication skills

The location for this position is Mossville, IL in Tech Center-Building L.
Relocation assistance is not available for this position. Any relocation costs incurred would be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
This position may require less than 10% travel.
