Caterpillar's Industrial Power Systems Division's (IPSD) has an opening for a Sr Engineer – Simulation in Mossville, IL, in this role you will serve as an experienced, individual contributor on projects and assignments that are complex in nature and that support and enhance Caterpillar product performance, durability, reliability, quality, and serviceability.

You will partner with and provide technical guidance to global engineering teams and suppliers. You will contribute to the planning and delivery of projects, continually learn, and stay abreast of innovative technology, mentor and coach team members, and broaden your professional network.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Responsible for valvetrain related components and exhaust manifold simulation supporting New Product Introduction, New Technology Introduction, and Current Product Improvement, using complex analysis, problem solving, and practical application of theory.
  • Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of valvetrain components and thermomechanical fatigue for exhaust manifold; driving decisions based on data for performance, durability, quality, reliability, and serviceability.
  • Collaborate with global partners to perform analysis and advance best practices, improving related processes and technologies.
  • Collaborate with component validation champions, design, and test engineers to define test and validation plans including model correlation, balancing time and cost.
  • Compare analysis results to measured data from tests to correlate models and/or validate the results.
  • Clear verbal and written communication of technical results to internal and external customers

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum plus 5-6 years of experience or a master’s degree in an Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum plus 3-4 years of experience or a doctorate degree plus 1 to 2 years of experience.
  • Experience with Finite element pre and post processors, such as NX, GT-Suite, or Hypermesh
  • Experience Finite element analysis solvers, such as Abaqus (preferred) or Ansys
  • Experience with fatigue analysis.
  • Requires a self-starter with strong technical leadership skills.

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Design or analysis experience with engine components; valvetrain components or exhaust manifolds
  • High temperature materials experience (fatigue life, wear, etc.)
  • Validation testing definition experience using FMEA and DVP&R methods
  • Incumbents must have demonstrated excellent analytical skills and the ability to perform complex assignments.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills; attention to detail
