Job Summary:
At Caterpillar’s Mossville, IL facility, our team supports central operations for quality, safety, and the manufacturing footprint. In this role as a Manufacturing Engineering Manager, you will report to the Supply Chain Strategy Manager and will be primarily responsible for overseeing a team that coordinates the development and implementation of manufacturing footprint projects for components serving prime product facilities. This includes concept / design through the various project implementation stages to final shipment of product This includes facility design, construction, and maintenance activities as well as the planning, developing, and implementing systems for new lean assembly processes. As a member of the Integrated Components and Solutions team, you will need to have a growth mindset, promote continuous improvement, and help build a defect-free culture. What you will do:
Provides leadership to leaders of multi-functional teams accountable for New Source and New Product Introductions into global network of operations facilities.
Provide direct leadership of multi-functional teams for large projects.
Leads development and execution of overall division Manufacturing Strategy.
Researches and understands both internal operational capabilities as well as global market trends to develop, monitor, and refine the division’s global manufacturing strategy.
Make division manufacturing footprint recommendations for NSI/NPI projects as well as being able to articulate the strategy for each business segment and overall division to senior leaders.
Coordinates long term capital planning process prioritized in alignment with the divisional strategy.
Provides key support to division capital expenditure governance to ensure annual capital allocations and projects are executed in planned year.
Coordination of capital expenditure activity involves manufacturing managers, product managers and business resource personnel.
Work directly with Product Group leaders and Operations leaders to providing manufacturing expertise in: manufacturing, assembly, materials & logistics, planning support, project management methodology/processes/tools.
Ensure and implement new technologies and continual improvements on the various processes to improve quality and reduce costs.
Facilitates the deployment of Concurrent Product & Process Development (CPPD) methodology and provides the required support resources.
Supports corporate initiatives such as 6 Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, certification, etc.
Coordinates facility transformation discussions in alignment with division manufacturing strategy.
Provide governance to the installation and movement of all major machinery and equipment related to facility transformation.
Interacts with manufacturing managers, product managers and facility managers.
Provides oversight to the procurement of major capital equipment associated with NPI/NSI and facility transformations.
Shares responsibility for the price and term negotiations with major equipment suppliers.
Provides direction, focus, motivation, and encouragement for subordinates.
What you will have:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
15+ years progressively responsible experience
Top Candidates will also have:
The position requires an engineering or manufacturing background plus familiarity with company manufacturing facilities, processes, equipment and processes.
Knowledge of shop operations and maintenance procedures is required.
Excellent interpersonal skills are required in order to deal with sensitive issues, develop others, or persuade others inside and outside the department to take specific actions.
