Job summary:
The Large Power Systems Division (LPSD) Test Data Systems team is responsible for the Automation and Data Acquisition Systems (DAS) used in power solutions development labs across Caterpillar for LPSD & Industrial Power Systems Division – Large (IPSD-L); working closely with Performance, Emissions, Instrumentation, and Facilities teams to ensure maximum value from time spent in test cells. Within our existing labs, for both engine & electrification power solutions development, we have some of the highest levels of test automation in the world making this a truly exciting area in which to work. The next phase for on our journey to improve standardization & reliability of test automation utilizing our DAS platforms (VersaDAC & Morphee) is to develop & integrate next generation platform for power systems solutions.
As an Engineering Project Team Lead based in Mossville IL, you will be responsible for managing the development, validation, deployment, and support of our Automation & DAS toolsets, to provide robust, maintainable, and cutting-edge solutions that surpass the high expectations of our process partners. Your focus will be the TC-L campus, working closely with LPSD & IPSD-L Stakeholders, the VersaDAC & Morphee SW development team, third-party suppliers for automation packages, and site-specific deployment/support teams to ensure alignment and drive efficient and successful utilization of test cells. You will create and maintain an organizational climate and culture which encourages innovation, collaboration, excitement, commitment, and a sense of urgency towards business success. You will mentor and coach enterprise team members, continually learn and stay abreast of innovative technology and deepen your professional network.
What you will do:
- Provide team leadership (with indirect resources) - coordinating global resources and guiding the technical direction for the next generation platform for power systems solutions.
- Manage workload for a team of about 15 automation developers and prioritize day-to-day support with minimal oversight.
- Work with acute customer focus with globally and culturally diverse teams and individuals, managing customer expectations, building strong and trusting relationships and becoming trusted partners.
- Define requirement, work to align a global team of experts and stakeholders to a common and shared set of requirements for new automation features.
- Ensure requirements are actionable, manageable, and agreeable to all vested parties & stakeholders.
- Manage change by developing and managing robust processes and communication plans to define, approve, develop, validate, and deploy changes in a controlled, efficient and responsive manner.
- Be a quality advocate, managing issues as they arise, ensuring root causes are understood, immediate corrective actions are rapidly deployed and robust permanent corrective actions are developed and included in the core platform as suitable.
What you must have:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering (or similar)
- 7+ years of relevant work-related experience, preferably power solutions (engine and/or electrification) performance development and testing
Top candidates will also have:
- 10+ years of relevant work-related experience preferably power solutions (engine and/or electrification) performance development and testing
- Good understanding of power solutions test-cell architectures and technologies
- Experience with process development and management
- NPI or NTI project management experience
- Diesel or Gas engine development and testing experience
- Proven team leadership skills
- Strong communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills including ability to troubleshoot system interaction issues, identify root causes and develop appropriate solutions
