Caterpillar’s EMD division is hiring for Engineering Manager in Peoria, IL!

Role Summary: In this role you will plan, direct and lead engineering staff and activities to ensure projects, initiatives and processes comply with established policies/objectives.

What You’ll Do (Job Duties)

  • Lead a global product development team for Hydraulic components and systems as well as Operator Station components and systems for Earthmoving and Resource Industries.
  • Managing a global engineering team through engaging leadership to achieve organizational goals, professional development and continuous improvement.
  • Responsibility for multi-million dollar R&D budget management
  • Global design control responsibility for hydraulic and operator components
  • Lead the advancement of technology and validation for hydraulics and operator station to improve project velocity, quality and cost. Including championing use of AI in this pursuit.
  • Lead the development of multi-generational product plans aligned with machine product group needs for hydraulic and operator station component and systems
  • Develop the best talent through intentional recruiting, growing the teams capabilities, succession planning, performance management and career development.
  • Frequently and effectively communicate with machine product groups and component product groups to maintain enterprise and product group business alignment

What You Have (Core Skills)

  • Planning: Tactical, Strategic: Knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan.
  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
  • Customer/Market Focus: Understanding of the importance of remaining aware of shifting market priorities and ability to respond to internal and external customer needs in a manner that consistently adds value.
  • Managing People: Knowledge of processes involved in managing people; ability to lead successful teams and diligently address issues related to performance and conflicts at the workplace.
  • Collaborating Globally: Knowledge of effective collaboration techniques and ability to build networks with people from different countries and cultures, think and work with them to bring positive impact and flourishing business results.


Top Candidates Will Also Have

  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Material Science, Physics, or Computer Science
  • Solid Business Acumen, strategic thinking skills
  • Significant experience leading technical teams (5-10 years or 3-5 NPI cycles)
  • Product Development experience with Hydraulic Components and/or Operator Station Components
  • Ability to lead in a dynamic business environment
  • Ability to use and develop AI solutions to product development

Additional Details

  • Work location: Peoria,IL
  • Domestic relocation assistance IS available for this role

  • Travel: 10% domestic and international
  • This position requires 5 days per week in the office (M-F)

Summary Pay Range:

$159,120.00 - $238,680.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
