Overview

To facilitate the activities of a nursing unit through the effective performance of receptionist, transcriptionist, and clerical processes. The position manages information and connects, physicians, staff, and visitors with appropriate resources.

Responsibilities

Utilizes Technology accurately and efficiently.

  • Processes written physician orders accurately

  • Assigns staff phones and coordinates with call light system

  • Checks Care Organizer for STAT orders, equipment needs, and consults

  • Check Care Board every 30 minutes for orders

  • Check Notes to Nursing for physician orders

  • Prints labels as needed

  • Notify RN of any STAT orders or need to acquire lab specimens

  • Enter Pending / Confirmed D/C in Bed Management system

  • Updates Bed Management system with admits and discharges

  • Is a Technology superuser and acts as a resource

  • Understands test priorities

  • Understands and is knowledgeable of computer downtime procedures

  • Is knowledgeable of and able to, access physician portal, HAC, HEC, HSM, Star, and Care Manager

  • Accurately utilizes supply scan

  • Enter in patient changes as appropriate

  • Utilizes the Intranet and email to keep abreast of information

  • Uses and is able to trouble-shoot fax machine and printer


Acts as a receptionist for the unit promoting positive relationships with those interacting with the nursing unit.

  • Greets visitors, physicians, patients, and staff in a friendly receptive manner

  • Promptly and courteously acknowledges individuals at the desk

  • Displays warmth, concern and respect for those needing assistance

  • Answers telephone timely, professionally, identifying unit, name, and title

  • Establishes positive working relationships with other hospital personnel

  • Knowledgeable and respectful of the roles other ancillary department personnel have in delivering patient care

  • Communicates with others is professional and respectful

  • Prioritizes and accurately channels incoming and outgoing information

  • Maintains flexibility and is able to adapt to rapidly changing environment and work volume. i.e. Code Blue, UAT, staffing needs.


Assists with patient care activities.

  • Accurately records diets/vital signs/I & O and other information as assigned

  • Sets up room for admits and clears rooms after transfer/discharge

  • Passes meal trays to patients

  • Assists with PRIDE rounds

  • Assists patients with meals

  • Assists in sitting with patients

  • Assists with patient positioning

  • Assists in the transfer and discharge of patients

  • Answers call lights and relays pertinent information to the appropriate person

  • Knowledgeable about use of patient care equipment (I.e. beds, bed check alarm, specialty beds, lift equipment, cleaning of patient equipment, and PPE holders).


Performs activities efficiently and accurately to facilitate quality patient care and to ensure a safe and efficiently operating unit.

  • Adheres to hand washing policy

  • Demonstrates knowledge of ordering supplies for the unit as delegated

  • Accurately files patient chart documents

  • Prints ancillary handoff form

  • Keeps unit organized

  • Accepts direction from lead RN to facilitate patient care

  • Runs errands and performs extra duties as requested.

  • Knowledgeable of quality improvement indicators and assists in achieving positive patient outcomes.

  • Prints Diet Census and station census

  • Files reports from printer/fax

  • Checks consult book and call if needed

  • Checks charts to assure IM letter is signed and Healthy Lifestyle Handout is present

  • Checks nutrition inventory and re-orders as needed

  • Posts assignments/turns/information on unit board

  • Posts NPO and daily weight signs

  • Applies Hospitalist on-call sticker to charts every Monday

  • Changes batteries for lift equipment

  • Prepares charts for anticipated D/C's and Nursing Homes

  • Stocks rooms, BSI boxes

  • Keeps travel board up to date

  • Assembles admission packets

  • Stuffs charts as appropriate

  • Attends and participates in unit and house-wide committees, meetings (I.e. Unit Secretary meetings, Meetings with CEO, benefits committee).

Salary Range

The compensation range for this position is $16.91per hour - $27.39per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
