Overview
Responsibilities
- Is professional in interactions with parents when interviewing for needed information.
- Is considerate of patient needs; asks permission before interviewing.
- Is timely in collecting and returning information and documents to parents.
- Is attentive to detail and formatting when typing birth certificate.
Informs parents with special needs of available programs and completes the required paperwork in a professional manner.
- Consults with adoptive or surrogate prospective parents when appropriate.
- Is knowledgeable of forms and procedures related to paternity acknowledgement.
- Follows all federal and state regulations regarding the obtaining and witnessing of signatures.
- Is knowledgeable of state and federal procedures for obtaining certified birth certificate copies.
- Responds to patient questions appropriately, promptly seeking unknown information.
- Assists with public aid enrollment for baby.
- Liaison with Good Beginnings program
Serves as a resource related to Vital Statistics and Social Security Card issues. Assists with departmental secretarial duties.

- Offers to apply for the new child's social security number/card at time of interview with parent.
- Submits records to the State in a timely manner.
- Assists with unit secretary role when requested.
- Answers telephone while available at nurses' station.
Performs consistent and accurate collection of Obstetrical data for statistical analysis.
- Is timely in collecting and reporting statistical data for review by the Nurse Manager or Director.
- Is knowledgeable of where to find required information, reports data accurately, and follows upon missing information.
- Gathers physician statistics as requested.
- Assists in data collection and completion of statistical surveys and submits in a timely manner
