Overview
Responsibilities
- Coordinates flow of patients, families and visitors to appropriate areas in the department and hospital.
- Provides the customer with the appropriate paperwork.
- Greets patients, families and visitors promptly and appropriately in a courteous manner, determining their need for assistance including directions, an escort, or transportation to the appropriate department.
- Maintains a polite and courteous manner in all situations dealing with customers.
- Identifies customers with special needs and communicates these needs to the appropriate person.
- Demonstrates problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Displays an ability to learn rapidly and adapt quickly to changing situations: receptive to new ideas
Understands the operations of all procedural areas and facilitates the continuous flow of interdisciplinary communication.
- Demonstrates ability to effectively communicate information given by the procedural rooms, doctors and nurses to the families
- Accurately documents information regarding family/customer communication
- Prioritizes phone calls and paging in times of high volume and continuously throughout the day
- Able to set up for the day to be prepared for patient flow and anticipates increased needs by families during periods of high volume
- Will coordinate breaks and lunches with registrars and his/her self around patient flow
- Contacts family member promptly and can communicate information clearly and succinctly.
- Demonstrates a courteous manner during periods of high volume phone calls and traffic at the desk.
- Demonstrates professionalism when communicating with doctors
- Strives to maintain the HIPAA regulations when providing information to families
- Checks all waiting areas periodically during the day to make sure patients are comfortable and not overlooked.
- Is sensitive to nonverbal cues of patients and families and initiates appropriate action to ensure patient satisfaction. Is sensitive to the interdependence of surgery volunteers and Surgical Services and promotes positive relationships.
- Monitors wait time of patients and families and initiates appropriate action at targeted time.
Performs a variety of clinical or clerical support functions to assure smooth and efficient flow of department processes.
- Demonstrates wise use of time, supplies and other resources to promote responsible and cost effective services
- Assists the clinical areas with routine duties such as maintenance, cleaning, and record keeping
- Supports the clinical staff through the performance of ancillary procedures such as taking vital signs, assist with changing clothes and any other patient need identified
- Sees that proper equipment is in the patient care area such as SCD machine, inspirometer, and others as needed
- Attends department meetings or education days as required
- Uses downtime to improve department appearance, stock, clean and to assist other healthcare members with their workload
- Is flexible and adapts to rapidly changing department needs
- Contributes to department and organizational goals
