The HR-Finance Business Analyst supports and advances the University’s Human Resources, Payroll, and Finance operations through expert administration of Workday and related enterprise technologies. Reporting to the Director of Enterprise Solutions within IT, the Analyst is the primary liaison between the respective functional areas and Information Technology (IT). The role is the main conduit that translates business processes/requirements into system functionality. The Analyst is responsible for optimizing business processes, ensuring data integrity across interconnected HR-Payroll-Finance workflows, developing reports and dashboards, and providing functional and technical support across key operational domains. The Analyst partners with stakeholders to assess needs, recommend improvements, and implement solutions that enhance efficiency, accuracy, compliance, and user experience. The position also contributes to system configuration, testing, documentation, and ongoing process improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Workday Operations & Support
- Serve as a primary point of contact for Workday HCM and Finance‑related functionality, providing guidance, troubleshooting, and partnering with HR, Payroll, and Finance staff and other campus stakeholders.
- Execute and maintain business processes, transactions, and data entry with accuracy and consistency across HR, Payroll, and Finance workflows.
- Conduct complex audits and reconciliations to ensure data integrity, compliance, and operational excellence across interconnected systems.
- Support day‑to‑day operations across HCM, Recruiting, Compensation, Payroll, Benefits, and Finance‑linked processes such as costing allocations, labor distributions, and payroll accounting.
- Assist in training of end users on functionality.
- Troubleshoot system issues and recommend courses of action.
2. System Configuration & Process Improvement
- Configure, test, and deploy Workday enhancements, updates, and business process changes across HR, Payroll, and Finance modules.
- Participate in or lead initiatives involving mass data updates, process redesign, and operational optimization across workstreams.
- Translate functional requirements into scalable system configurations, including conditional logic, eligibility rules, and Finance‑related accounting structures.
- Monitor Workday releases, evaluate new features, and recommend adoption strategies that support HR, Payroll, and Finance needs.
3. Reporting & Analytics
- Develop, maintain, and optimize Workday reports, dashboards, and analytics using Workday reporting tools, Prism, and enterprise data and analytics platforms.
- Produce and validate reports supporting HR, Payroll, and Finance reconciliation needs, including payroll costing, encumbrances, and labor distribution.
- Analyze trends, metrics, and system impacts to support decision‑making and continuous improvement across all three functions.
- Gather reporting requirements from non‑technical users and advise on reporting best practices.
4. Projects, Documentation & Collaboration
- Lead or support Workday‑related projects, implementations, migrations, and upgrades across HR, Payroll, and Finance.
- Create and maintain documentation when necessary for system processes, procedures, and configuration, including Finance‑related workflows.
- Collaborate with HR, Payroll, Finance, IT, and campus partners to align system capabilities with institutional needs.
- Participate in cross‑functional workgroups related to integrations, security, reporting, data governance, and financial workflow alignment.
- Support EIB uploads and other tools for mass data maintenance across HR, Payroll, and Finance data sets.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and 3–5 years of relevant HRIS, business process analysis, HR, Payroll, or Finance operations experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least 2 years of ERP experience in HCM, Payroll, or Finance‑related modules.
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to understand complex business processes and communicate clearly with technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, operate independently, and maintain attention to detail.
- Proactive, self-starter who sets high standards for self and co-workers.
- Excellent coaching, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a higher education environment.
- ERP experience (Workday), including configuration, reporting, and release management across HR, Payroll, and Finance.
- Experience with analytics tools.
- Project management experience.
- Workday certification(s).
