Instructor in Residence, Painting
Bradley University
Position Summary:
Bradley University invites applications of Painting in the Department of Art and Design for a one-year sabbatical replacement appointment beginning Aug 2026 and ending May 2027. The successful candidate will be a dedicated instructor and practicing artist committed to high-quality undergraduate instruction and student mentorship.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Teach undergraduate painting courses at introductory and intermediate/advanced levels
- Provide instruction in a range of painting techniques, materials, and conceptual approaches
- Participate in critiques, student exhibitions, and departmental activities
- Contribute to curriculum support and program assessment as appropriate
- Maintain painting studios and uphold safety and best practices
Qualifications:
Required:
- MFA in Painting or other appropriate discipline
- Demonstrated effectiveness or strong potential in undergraduate teaching
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Commitment to inclusive, student-centered pedagogy
Preferred:
- Experience teaching a range of painting approaches (e.g., oil, acrylic, watercolor, mixed media)
- Familiarity with contemporary painting practices and theory
Working Conditions:
- Hands-on work in active studio environments with exposure to dust, chemicals, and power tools.
- Ability to lift to 40 lbs and safely handle art materials and equipment.
