Position Title: Engineering Laboratory Technologist

Department: CCET

Reports to: Laboratory Director

Appointment: Full-Time; 40 hours per week/12 months

Status: Exempt

The Caterpillar College of Engineering and Technology at Bradley University is accepting applications for an Engineering Laboratory Specialist starting November 2024.

We are seeking a new member for our team to support students and faculty in their projects. The ideal candidate would have 3-5 years of electronics and troubleshooting experience, knowledge of oscilloscopes, power supplies, multi-meters, signal generators. Experience with programming languages is preferred. The successful candidate is expected to have a strong commitment to undergraduate instructional laboratories, and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

  1. ECE Laboratory Support
  • Responsible for day-to-day operations and overall lab safety including training and incident reporting
  • Support ECE department laboratory activities including equipment maintenance, replacement, purchase
  • Identify new ECE lab equipment needs and make recommendations to plan capital ECE standard equipment purchasing
  • Put in facility work orders, work with facilities on quotes for scope of work, and coordinate time and install of work order requests
  1. ECE Networking and Computer Software
  • Provide maintenance and updates to ECE network servers
  • Manage license servers, ECE application software renewal or new purchases
  • Create computer image with ECE application software and deploy it to ECE labs
  • Manage faculty laptop and/or office computer updates and upgrades
  • Work with CCET lab/tech team to support computer labs in ME and IMET
  1. ECE Project Support
  • Support student project teams including senior capstone projects and non-senior projects by providing technical evaluation and purchasing assistance as well as construction of custom laboratory fixtures and test apparatus
  • Work with Machine Shop/Safety manager, and communicate ECE project needs, if any
  1. ECE Faculty Support
  • Manage faculty laptop and/or office computer updates and upgrades
  • Assist part order, equipment order, and project spaces for faculty teaching and research needs
  1. Purchasing
  • Order lab supplies and parts
  • Assist part order, equipment order, and project spaces for faculty teaching and research needs
  • Reconcile monthly Bradley issued credit card bill

Required Education and Experience

  • Associate's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or relevant certifications.
  • 3-5 years of electronics and troubleshooting experience.
  • Knowledge of programming languages.
  • Experience with oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters, and signal generators.

Preferred Experience

An understanding of the university environment and the range of users of university administrative applications are a plus.
