The Smith Career Center invites candidates for the 75% (30 hours per week) non-exempt position of Career Advisor serving the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

The Smith Career Center (SCC), a center within the Division of Student Affairs, provides comprehensive career services to students and alumni and practical recruitment assistance to employers. The programs and services offered are innovative and responsive to current trends and economic conditions affecting the job market and career opportunities. The SCC develops and implements over 130 career related programs, serving over 5,000 students and alumni each year. Depending upon credentials and experience, the Career Advisor's responsibilities include but are not limited to advising students and alumni regarding appropriate career and job search strategies; coordinating application, referral, and monitoring activities for experiential education students; conducting employer development activities; actively participating on assigned teams; and providing workshops and classroom presentations concerning career planning and job search topics. Some evening and weekend work is required. The individual works with SCC staff, employers, other University units and reports to the Executive Director of the Smith Career Center.
Candidates must possess exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills in addition to proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel. Knowledge of career management software/resources is preferred (ex., 12Twenty, Handshake, Symplicity). Candidates must also be detail-oriented, possess excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, and have the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. The successful candidate will communicate a commitment to collaboration, diversity and inclusion, experiential learning, retention, and student wellness. An earned bachelor’s degree is required for the position, master’s degree is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in career services, student affairs, recruiting, counseling, or a related field.
