Job Description

The Department of Civil Engineering and Construction (CEC) at Bradley University is seeking part-time online instructors to support the continued expansion of our programs. We invite qualified, innovative educators to teach online courses across the civil engineering curriculum. We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive educational environment and seek candidates who can contribute to the excellence and diversity of our faculty.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver online civil engineering courses as assigned by the Department Chair or other leadership, adhering to the established syllabus and course objectives. Online Instructor(s) may be assigned to the courses that have been already developed by others. The core content for these courses may include lecture materials, pre-recorded videos, assignments, exams, etc.
  • Have a strong online presence with regular interactions with students.
  • Provide timely feedback, evaluate student performance, and assist students in meeting learning objectives.
  • Hold virtual help sessions and provide support to students.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and refine curricula and ensure consistency across the program.
  • Maintain accurate records in compliance with departmental policies.
  • Complete a short Bradley required online faculty training.

Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
  • At least one year of online teaching experience or demonstrated potential for excellence in online education.
  • Strong communication skills (oral, written, and electronic).
  • Competence in online teaching platforms, with preference given to experience with Canvas.

Skills and Abilities

  • Expertise in civil engineering and the ability to effectively apply this knowledge in an educational setting.
  • Experience in developing and assessing student learning outcomes.
  • Proficiency with standard software (email, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentations) and internet-based tools.
  • Adaptability in using various teaching methods and technologies to enhance student success.
  • Ability to engage with a diverse student population and promote a collaborative learning environment.
  • Commitment to providing inclusive, non-discriminatory educational services.
