Position Title: Special Collections/Archives Assistant

Department: Chase Special Collections and University Archives, Cullom-Davis Library

Reports to Head of Special Collections

Appointment: Full-Time: 37.5 hours per week (12-month position)

Pay Rate: $15.00 per hour

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Respond to specialized reference requests from Bradley University students and employees as well as the general public at the Special Collections Center service desk

  • Supervise researchers and student workers in the Special Collections Reading Room and other spaces when necessary

  • Locate, retrieve, and return archival materials for researchers in a safe manner

  • Maintain (preserve, organize, describe, label, etc.) materials housed in the Special Collections Center and University Archive

  • Contribute original MARC entries to OCLC catalog record

  • Adhere to and enforce general and specific policies structuring access to collections

  • Help track and compile statistics

  • Participate in department and library meetings and appropriate committees and attend webinars and other training as needed

  • Collaborate on a wide range of initiatives, including physical and digital exhibits, preservation projects, special events, tours, and class visits

  • Perform other job-related duties as needed


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & CHARACTERISTICS

  • Basic understanding of special collections and archives operations

  • Strong people skills

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Proficiency in word processing and basic computer applications

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively

  • Sound judgment and problem-solving skills in accordance with established policies and procedures

  • Commitment to equity. diversity and inclusion

  • Good planning and organizational skills

  • Capacity to manage multiple projects effectively


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • One (1) year of archives, library, galleries, museum or related experience;

  • Knowledge of OCLC or MARC software and platforms

  • Experience handling or preserving rare and valuable objects, documents, and other materials

  • Strong research skills
