This full-time, 12-month, In-Residence position becomes effective August 1, 2024. The department of nearly 30 full-time faculty offers an impressive array of highly sought-after degrees including an M.S. in Counseling, undergraduate degrees in Teacher Education, and an Ed.D. in Higher Education. The department also serves both undergraduate and graduate students from other programs throughout the University.
Candidates should have a CACREP-accredited doctoral degree in counselor education. ABDs will be considered. All candidate should have a commitment to excellence in teaching and service, and be willing to engage in on-line instruction. In-Residence faculty are not required to maintain an active research line.
In addition to teaching courses in school counseling and clinical mental health counseling, one of the following general areas may be helpful: neurocounseling, experience working with CACREP, experience as a school counselor and/or supervisor of school counseling students; knowledge relative to comprehensive school counseling models, data-driven programming, and/or trauma-informed schools. Must be license eligible in Illinois and willing to locate to the Peoria, IL area.
Job Summary/Basic Function:
Responsibilities include teaching four courses each semester, provide student supervision germane to school and/or clinical mental health counseling, actively advise and mentor students, and provide departmental/university service as necessary to support those courses. This may involve limited supervision of graduate assistants.
Specific Responsibilities
Teach courses as assigned in the Department of Education, Counseling & Leadership, primarily in the area of counselor education (both school and clinical mental health counseling master’s concentration). The Counseling Program is designed for working adults with classes offered in two formats: Peoria Campus with an evening teaching format OR Online Campus with (2) weekend campus residencies. Faculty will demonstrate the ability to contribute to the core program, demonstrate the ability to collaborate with colleagues on projects such as grants, maintain compliance with CACREP Section 3 – Professional Practice, attend at least one commencement ceremony per year, participate in on-campus residency events, assist with CACREP accreditation activities, and provide service to the counseling program, college, and University.
Required Relevant Education & Experience
PhD in Counselor Education, preferably from a CACREP accredited program.
Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
License eligible in Illinois as a School Counselor or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC). Certified as a National Certified Counselor (NCC) encouraged.
