The Department of Art and Design, within The Slane College of Communications and Fine Arts at Bradley University, seeks candidates committed to innovative teaching and meaningful service in the area of Letterpress and Book Arts. Job Summary/Basic Function
Required: Experience in Letterpress Printing and contemporary aesthetics and practices in book arts; including composing and printing metal type and photopolymer plates, experience using a Vandercook or similar cylinder proofing press, demonstrated skills in hand bookbinding and construction techniques for artists’ books.
Also desirable: Experience in other relief-printing techniques, graphic design and typography, or digital printing and photographic books.
Ability to execute the operations of lifting and handling drawers of metal type and operating equipment including presses.
This is an in-person studio course, offered each Fall semester, but could be expanded to the Spring semester also, if popular.
Required Education
MFA in Art/Design (or a closely related field), OR, equivalent related industry background. Some higher education teaching background is desirable but not required.

As part of the endowed Slane College of Communications and Fine Arts, the Department of Art and Design is accredited by the National Association of Art & Design, (NASAD). The Department has approximately 100 majors, 40+ minors, and is housed in the Heuser Art Center. With (BFA/BA/BS) undergraduate concentrations in Painting, Drawing, Graphic Design, Sculpture, Art History (BA), and Art Education as well as an MA/MFA program, the facility houses a 1200 sq. ft. gallery and 3 floors of studio spaces, photography darkrooms and a 60-seat lecture hall. Graphic Design courses are taught in the Caterpillar Global Communications Center, a multi-million-dollar, state-of-the-art facility housing multi-purpose media labs, videoconference facilities, digital audio and video editing facilities, and high-end interactive-media-equipped classrooms. Peoria is located midway between Chicago and St. Louis. A locally active arts community includes ballet, symphony, and theater. The region supports the Riverfront Museum, the Peoria art Guild and the Contemporary Art Center. Peoria is home to a range of design and marketing agencies as well as several companies with international operations and major medical facilities.
