Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform lab testing, root-cause analysis, and failure investigation for field issues; develop and implement corrective solutions.
  • Plan and execute validation activities including test setup, fixture development, data acquisition, analysis, and reporting.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, and technical requirements; collaborate with process partners to update prints and ensure design accuracy.
  • Drive cost-reduction initiatives through sample validation, supplier evaluation, and collaboration with Supplier Development Engineers (SDEs) and purchasing teams.
  • Apply quality methodologies such as CPI, FMEA, APQP, and PPAP to ensure robust product performance and reliability.
  • Coordinate closely with cross-functional teams including SMEs, NPI/NTI leads, test engineers, manufacturing, and suppliers to support testing and production activities.

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • Master’s degree with a focus on Power Electronics preferred (minimum 6 years experience with M.S.).
  • Approximately 8 years of relevant experience in power electronics, inverter testing, or related fields.
  • Prior experience in roles such as Power Electronics Component Design Engineer or Power Converter Product Maintenance Engineer is highly desirable.
  • Internship experience will not be considered as qualifying experience.

Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of electric drivetrain inverters, including topology, control, design, and manufacturing processes.
  • Hands-on experience in testing and troubleshooting high-voltage, high-power traction inverters.
  • Proficiency in test planning, execution, and coordination including fixtures, instrumentation, and validation processes.
  • Experience with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, HV probes, current transducers, dataloggers, thermal chambers, and power supplies.
  • Strong analytical skills using tools such as Python, MATLAB, Excel, and JBER for data processing and reporting.
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as IPC 600/650 and IEC 60204/60664/61557.
  • Experience with engineering drawing review, GD&T interpretation, and specification management.
  • Familiarity with root-cause analysis, CPI processes, and hands-on troubleshooting techniques.

Soft Skills

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with the ability to work across cross-functional and global teams.
  • Self-starter with the ability to take ownership, identify issues, and drive actions independently.
  • Ability to quickly learn and understand existing in-production inverter designs.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to lead discussions, facilitate problem-solving sessions, and work effectively in a matrix organization.
