The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of ISO 19014, ISO 61508/ISO 13849, and Safety of the Intended Functionality (SOTIF), and will play a key role in driving a culture of safety across the organization.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Analyze current system robustness, identify potential safety scenarios, and define system capabilities to achieve predictable and explainable safe behavior.

  • Work cross-functionally with electrical, mechanical, and software teams to integrate safety requirements into end-to-end system development.

  • Develop and maintain safety plans, hazard analysis, FMEA, and system-level safety cases in alignment with corporate and industry safety standards.

  • Support the application of Safety of the Intended Functionality (SOTIF) principles to ensure the system performs safely under real-world operational conditions.

  • Contribute to risk assessments and verification/validation planning to ensure functional safety requirements are met.

  • Collaborate with engineering and leadership teams to foster a cultural shift toward safety-driven design thinking.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship on functional safety methodologies and tools.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, or Controls Engineering (or equivalent technical discipline).

  • Proven experience working with functional safety standards, including ISO 19014, ISO 61508, and ISO 13849.

  • Strong understanding of SOTIF (ISO 21448) and its application to autonomous and semi-autonomous machine systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in cross-functional teams and influence technical and cultural change within an engineering organization.

  • Experience performing system-level safety analysis, including hazard analysis and risk assessment.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Prior experience with off-highway or earthmoving machinery systems.

  • Hands-on experience with system integration, controls, and diagnostics for heavy equipment.

  • Familiarity with embedded system design, CAN/J1939 communication, and software safety concepts.
Certification in Functional Safety (e.g., TÜV SÜD/SGS) is a plus.
