Job Description

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • The position will contribute to the work group by performing various engine validation tests to validate engine designs including Structures and Dynamics tests for engine systems and components, non-structural engine tests such as fuel system, air system, etc.

  • Will work with a large group of business partners including the design team, validation team, testing team and simulation team.

  • Key projects: Mounted Equipment Resonance (MER) tests, On Machine Stress Analysis (OMSA) tests, fuel system flow, pressure, temperature, etc.

  • Purpose of this team: ensure high quality of IPSD-L engine products through validation.

  • Pretest:

    • Understand test objectives and scope, project timeline.

    • Collect gauge maps, test cycles.

    • Prepare parts and gauges.

  • Work with the lab team on test execution and data acquisition using systems like LMS, eDAQ.

    • Set up test instrumentation.

    • Perform modal testing for engine systems and components.

    • Perform engine tests by following standard test procedures.

    • Perform test data analysis such as vibration severity assessment, weld/bolted joint analysis, parent material fatigue analysis, fluid flow, pressure and temperature analysis, etc. by following Caterpillar standard test procedures.

  • Communicate test results and recommendations to internal customers including design engineers and engine system validation leads.


Education & Experience

  • Years of experience: 2+ years of engineering experience is required. Structural vibration and durability testing experience is required.

  • Degree requirement: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
