Our Pekin campus produces products destined for Health, Home& Beauty; Food and Beverage; Industry & Agriculture; Essential Ingredients; and Renewable Fuels markets. All personnel are responsible for the safety of these products, which includes participation in training, following cGMP and feed/food safety requirements in the facility, and following procedures per instruction of management
Job Purpose: Responsible for implementing, maintaining and improving the Company’s programs related to environmental compliance at the Alto Pekin Campus in Pekin, IL. Pekin Campus facilities operate as an integrated facility with a dry mill distillery, a corn wet mill and distillery, a dry grind renewable fuels plant, and specialized yeast production plant.
The following is a list of major duties and responsibilities for this position along with certain supportive duties. It is not all-inclusive. Other duties and responsibilities may be added as needed and in addition, management may modify this job description as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conducts or leads environmental inspections to ensure environmental compliance.
- Leads or supports incident investigations to reveal root cause(s) and works with management team to effectively and pro-actively implement changes.
- Provide leadership to and define roles and responsibilities for environmental specialists.
- Implements and administers government required environmental programs to ensure facility compliance with all permits and laws.
- Generates government required environmental reports
- Assists in environmental training development and implementation in coordination with Corporate Training Coordinator
- Works with Managers to promote environmental excellence in the workforce
- Tracks effectiveness of company environmental programs and recommends changes as appropriate.
- Acts as a liaison with State, Federal and local agencies on environmental issues
- Tracks and submits all regulatory emissions reports.
- Maintains master files of incidents, audits, environmental records and all other records/data related to compliance
Education and Experience Requirements:
- 10+ years relevant environmental experience implementing and administering governmental required environmental programs in an industrial setting, corn wet/dry milling highly preferred.
- Must have 4-year college degree in technical or science-related field, environmental or chemical engineering preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work with a management team to implement environmental programs and create a culture that values safety, integrity, and compliance.
- Must have effective presentation and communication skills to act as a liaison with State, Federal and local agencies on environmental issues.
- Management experience highly preferred
- Experience with other programs such as radiation, asbestos, certified wastewater operator certification helpful.
Qualifications:
- Must possess a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of state and Federal environmental regulations. Site responsibilities include oversight of:
- Air and water permitting, compliance tracking, documentation and reporting (including CEMS, LDAR, DMRs, SAMRs, ACCs, etc.)
- Annual reporting for TRI, AER, eGRRT and other NSPS/NESHAP requirements.
- Waste management and reporting for hazardous, non-hazardous, and special wastes
- Coordination and management of source testing
- Inspections and compliance plans for: SWPPP, SPCC, FRP, FPOP, etc.
- Must be able to prepare clear, comprehensive and concise technical reports for effective communication with a variety of internal and external entities.
- Must have effective presentation and communication skills for delivery of training programs and reports to plant employees and regulatory agencies.
- Proficiency in utilization of MS Office software including MS Word and Excel.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work in cold to hot temperatures; work around dust, fumes, and/or moderate to loud noises; work inside and/or outside;
- Able to lift, pull, carry, and pick-up average to heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds;
- Able to climb stairs and ladders; walk on paved and unpaved surfaces; sit at a desk and operate a computer and keyboard; visual acuity to review written documentation; ability to hear, speak, and understand speech at normal room levels and on the telephone; manual dexterity to operate a telephone; lift horizontally and vertically, bend, stoop, stand, twist, and reach;
- Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
